Trying to find the best tech travel gadgets without breaking the bank? What about the most reliable data plan for international travel? Or noise-canceling headphones to drown out that screaming baby on the plane? Find out what I use to get thru it all.
Side Note: you won’t find any laptops, tablets, smartphones, or high-end cameras on this list. I tend to find these items extremely personal based on project, preference, and personal taste.
This list is geared towards travelers who want to not spend a ton of money on crappy products that don’t work, keep their travel tech light, and multi-functional. In general, this list is for the traveler who well… is looking for tech gadgets that make travel easier!
(1) Skyroam Solis: Mobile WiFi Hotspot & Power Bank for Travel
If you travel internationally frequently, I recommend investing in a skyroam which is a mobile hotspot that will connect up to 5 of your devices at 4G LTE speed in over 130 countries. (It is amazing, super-fast, and no longer do I need to pick up a new SIM card for each new country). It’s also a power bank and super small so it easily fits in your pocket.
After switching from Verizon (please catch up and offer a reasonably priced international data plan) to T-Mobile (most plans come with free international data – just slow abroad), I found skyroam. Yes, the upfront cost is pricey but if you know you’ll be traveling abroad frequently, it ends up being cheaper than other phone carrier plans. Skyroam also has a rental option. I also like it because it is much faster speed, secure, and spans so many countries without switching SIM cards.
(2) Power Bank
Do you know what sucks your phone battery when you travel? Taking an insane amount of selfies while running Google Maps in Venice so you don’t get lost (you will). This power bank is light, slim, and quick charging. Do yourself a favor and find a power bank that works for you because undoubtedly you’ll run into a situation where your phone is about to die but you must get that last sunset selfie picture.
(3) Tech Gadget: Multi USB Charger Cable
Aside from peace on Earth, I hope Apple and Android will one day ban together and create one universal cord so I can stop carrying so many around. Until that day comes, this multi USB Charger Cable is my solution. Â
I love this adapter because (1) it extends to 4ft (2) is retractable (3) includes a Micro USB (laptops), Lightning (iPhones), and Type-C (Samsung) connector. My husband and I have a Hatfield vs McCoy family smackdown whenever the conversation of Apple vs Samsung phones gets addressed and part of that argument is because of the different types of chargers.
(4) Bose Wireless Bluetooth Headphones, Noise-Cancelling
How badly do you want to drown the sound of that screaming baby two rows back? These Bose Headphones will do just that plus so much more. Yes, these headphones are expensive so if you’re looking to be extra and splurge, these are the Rolls Royce of headphones.
The headphones come equipped with world-class noise cancellation, Alexa enabled for voice access, Bluetooth, and Bose AR – which is the audio version of augmented reality.
(5) JLab Go Air True Wireless Bluetooth Earbuds
Not looking to break the bank on a pair of headphones? I get it. The JLab Bluetooth Earbuds are a good alternative. They provide approx 15 hours of playtime, come with an easy to carry, easy to charge case, and volume controls on the earbuds themselves. For under $30 these earbuds are a good deal for battery life, quality, and size.
(6) Pro Lens Kit
Want to take professional looking photos without carrying all the expensive camera gear? Try these! These attachable lenses work with both iPhone and Samsung phones and come with both a wide-angle and macro lens.
It also comes with a quick-release lanyard to access your lens quickly and a mini LED light to make sure you have the best lighting for your selfie…because let’s be honest, when you travel, if you don’t have a picture of yourself in front of major monuments, it didn’t happen.
(7) Selfie Stick
I can’t in good conscience create a tech gadgets list without a selfie stick. I’ve probably had over 10 selfie sticks because…well they work and are convenient. My husband is beyond embarrassed when I whip out my selfie stick and start snapping away.
What he doesn’t state is he loves the pictures afterward and won’t volunteer to take pictures even though he’s a foot taller and has a better vantage, so I’m left to my own devices which is a selfie stick!
For the price point, this is a great selfie stick. It is both a stick and tripod, extends up to 40 inches, folds down to fit in your pocket, and comes with a wireless remote control. Plus it’s compatible with Apple and Android.
